With the plethora of companies and logo designs in the world, there’s no doubt that it gets more and more difficult to come up with something original. No matter how witty, ‘different’ or clever your concept, there’s a big chance that someone else has come up with something fairly similar.
Why is this? Take a look at our surroundings. We all see the same shapes, influences, symbols and patterns. We may interpret them differently, but that doesn’t make them different. With identical companies working with graphic designers, and the importance of company branding, there is always the possibility of a design looking similar if not identical. With the exception of large, famous brands, some designers, without knowing it, will come up with twin logos.
Below is a compilation of twinsy logos that can give you an idea of what I’m talking about:
Moya Technology & MyBroadband News
Sun Microsystems & Columbia Sportswear
City of Melbourne & Merchant Logix
Toyota & Unknown
As you can plainly see, there’s bound to be copyright infringement cases pending or already resolved with the above cases. Remember to never use clip art (as in the first example) in a logo design, try to work outside the box when it comes to a symbol or an actual object (an apple) and never, ever copy a logo you’ve seen online.
